How do I customize a Sharepoint 2003 Site?

You can make basic changes to your Sharepoint site using your browser. For more advanced changes, you need Microsoft FrontPage 2003.

SharePoint includes tools that let you create custom lists, calendars, page views, and the like. To fully customize your site, you can use Microsoft FrontPage 2003. Specifically, you can use FrontPage Themes and shared borders, and also use FrontPage to create photo galleries and top ten lists, utilize standard usage reports, and integrate automatic Web content.


To change your Sharepoint site using the browser:
1. Surf to the home page of your Sharepoint site
2. Click on "Site Settings" and login with your username and password
3. Click on "Change site title and description" to change the website title
4. Click on "Customize home page" to change the layout of the home page
5. Click on "Apply theme to site" to change the look & feel

To add content or to add a webpage to your website using the browser:
1. Surf to the home page of your Sharepoint site
2. Click on "Create" and login with your username and password
3. Select an item or type of webpage to add to your website

To edit the Sharepoint website using FrontPage:
1. Make sure Office 2003 including FrontPage 2003 is installed
1. Open FrontPage
2. Select "Open Site" from the File Menu
3. Enter the URL of your Sharepoint site
4. Enter your administrator username and password
5. Click on the page default.aspx to edit your homepage
6. Make sure to take a backup first using Menu Tools / Server / Backup Website
7. Be careful: by making incorrect changes, your website can become unusable !
