Why can't I access my SharePoint Data and files using FTP?

SharePoint Services 2003 data and files are stored in a server-side MSDE SQL 2000 Database.  The database files are not accessible by customers. When you upload or create your SharePoint 2003 site using your Browser or FrontPage 2003, the data is created in the MSDE SQL Database and not in your Web Site Directory.
